Hiring a magician can be a daunting task since you want someone who is going to make you look good. The last thing you want is an amateur with no personality showing a few tricks your uncle once taught you!
When you are looking to hire an entertainer, take a minute to look at their testimonials and find out what past clients have said. Testimonials are vitally important because they are the words and thoughts of someone other than the person you are trying to hire. Look for more detailed testimonials that show how pleased the client was such as, “He is a consummate professional who can be depended on to provide a very entertaining show that is targeted at the audience1,” or “he did a great job in getting everybody to participate in the fun; he made everybody feel special.2 ” If all you get are short, pull-out quotes or one-liners such as, “He was great,” or “We loved his magic,” you are not getting a well-rounded picture of the performer.
Testimonials can help you decide if the person is a qualified professional entertainer, or merely someone who knows a few tricks. You deserve someone who has a proven track record who will make your event a success!
You also deserve to see authentic testimonials, both written and video. Some performers create fake ones. You deserve the real thing. Authentic testimonials include the name of the person and other information, such as where the show took place or the name of the company who hired the entertainer.
Video/Pictures
In addition to testimonials, there is no substitute for actually seeing or hearing the magician in action while entertaining. Promotional video clips are a great way to do this. If a magician has none of these on his/her website you should doubt how long they have actually been performing. Having visual proof (videos and pictures) should be one of the highest priorities for a magician when owning a website. Make sure all photos clearly show the people having fun and that the magician looks well-dressed. You certainly don’t want them turning up in jeans and a t-shirt – believe me, it happens.
Checking out testimonials and video clips will help you make an informed decision as you seek to hire a qualified professional magician for your event.
